In this project, students will have the opportunity to design and create an activity or project that promotes social belonging and inclusion for individuals with neurodiverse talents in STEM fields. They can also choose to design and create an assistive technology device to support individuals with different abilities.
The aim of this project is to encourage students to use their creativity and problem-solving skills to make a positive impact in the lives of others. By creating an inclusive environment for individuals with diverse talents and abilities, students can help to promote social belonging and create a more inclusive and diverse STEM community.
To complete this project, students will need to research and develop ideas for their activity or device, and create a plan for implementation. They will also need to consider the needs and perspectives of individuals with neurodiverse talents and work to incorporate these into their project.
Overall, this project provides an opportunity for students to use their skills and talents to make a positive impact in the world and promote social belonging and inclusion for individuals with diverse abilities.
Option #1: Designing Customized Assistive Technology. Students will use 3D printing technology to create customized assistive technology devices for individuals with different abilities. They will also learn about different disabilities and how technology can be used to support individuals with those disabilities.
Option #2: Prototype and Program Assistive Technology into Arduino Microcontroller. Students will work to prototype and program assistive technology into an Arduino microcontroller. They will need to have advanced skills in programming and engineering, as well as access to a variety of Arduino parts. The goal of this project is to challenge students to research and create an Arduino-powered assistive technology that can help individuals with different abilities to improve their daily lives.
Option #3: Raise Community Awareness about a Specific Assistive Technology Device or Software. Students will create a community awareness poster or presentation that educates others about a specific assistive technology device or software that can benefit individuals with different abilities.
